Although Honduras is one of the least urbanized countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, it has one of the highest urban growth rates in the region. The effects of such urbanization are glaring; 16% of the nation’s homes are overcrowded. Barriers to accessing land make it difficult for Honduran households to attain decent shelter, both commercially and publicly. Habitat Honduras is eliminating barriers to accessing land for shelter by advocating for changes in legal and political frameworks of housing, within municipal and national governments and private organizations.
